Welcome to Little Hawk Yarns. I hope you enjoy your stay here. I will try to update with a little history of your spinner, what fibers I’m working with at the moment, and how the property we just bought eventually turns into a farmish type place.
We are finally moved into the house, well, minus a few boxes that still need unpacked and the garage needs organized. Now that we’ve had our families visit and see our new home we can get down to business and start planning our homestead. A large part of that plan, I hope, will be fiber animals. At least sheep with the possibility of rabbits, goats, alpacas, and/or llamas. I doubt I’ll lean toward yaks or buffalo/bison. I just don’t have the fences for it.
Of course all of the critters means we need to get a few other things in place as well. They need shelter, gates for the fences, a trailer for hauling either from breeders or to the vet, a truck to pull said trailer, a storage shed for their food and other accessories, and I’ll need a wool/fiber barn eventually as well.
We have a start on it as we lucked out and the property has fences that are in good shape. We’ll need a few gates and maybe a few modifications depending on the animals we keep. We also have a couple of small sheds that will work for shelter until we come up with a better design.
In the meantime I am continuing to spin. At the moment I have a Targhee wool I’m working on spinning up. After that I have a request for some cotton. Also, while I get my place in order I will continue to purchase my roving from local people around the valley here.
I welcome any comments or questions about spinning and fiber. If I don’t know I will try to find out for you.
